Pino :: ERGO PROXY ::
Filed in anime, January 29, 2008, 3:31 pm by matumoIf I was to ever dress up in Cos Play. It would be as Pino. Maybe it’s because she plays a melodica (like me!). Maybe it’s because she is stubborn and does not like to be interrupted when she is reading her favorite fairytales (also like me!). Maybe it’s because s she wanders off a lot (again, me!). See the above pic? See it? The resemblance is too uncanny, if you ask me. Two peas in a pod, in matching bunny PJs.
Pino, short for Pinocchio, is my current favorite anime character. She is an infected companion AutoReiv from the anime Ergo Proxy. The infection leads the droids to have a “soul”, emotions of their own. She was scheduled for “decommission” after her “family” was granted permission to have a real child. Before this could happen, her “mother” and infant “sibling” were killed.
Pino is also one of the few characters in this series that is in bright cheerful colors. Everyone else is in somber gothic tones. She is very innocent, and learning the difference ranges of emotions (mainly loss, though still not fully understanding it, as any real child would), as each series passes.
Ergo Proxy reminds me a lot of Bladerunner meets Highlander, tinged with Neon Genesis Evangelion. It is beautifully animated, and the story line is excellent. A dark, dark science fiction tale.
I love H.Hayashi

Is it too early in the morning for a nose bleed? I think not.
I really love the wonderous worlds from H.Hayashi. This is pure happiness. Rosey cheeked children flying in magical machines, or going on adventures in mysterious lands. Each paper craft tells a different story, bringing both a warm feeling in the heart, and the longing for our childhood daydreams.
Bride of the Water God

Story/Illustrations: Mi-Kyung Yun
So after taking a short break from reading Manga and Manhwa, I was on the threshold of a major overdose, Mikki lent me this.
This manhwa was the best welcome back! A very promising beginning to a very promising series. Though, the story is typical for this genre (a GENRE that I LOVE and can’t get ENOUGH), but what makes this stand out from the rest is the illustrations. It’s … just .. simply … amazing …. She won “Best New Artist” award in 2004 from the renowned “Dokja-manhwa-daesang organization”.
